So called "Ethereum killers" have or will have sacrificed one or more aspects of The Blockchain Trilemma. Lower fees are great but it usually costs a blockchain a level of decentralization. There is also a demand factor; Right now many of super cheap smart contract chains do NOT have same demand as Ethereum. Lastly, the popular names on social media "giving up" on ETH are totally understandable: They just want to pump their alt bags and then probably move profits to ETH haha
