Did something go wrong?
In my opinion? Yes. Things are very, very wrong at the moment - and the only saving grace this world has, is the fact that the primal qualities of a human being, are love, the desire to care for fellow human beings and compassion. But will that prevail over the evil that society has turned into?
Social media
Well - enter the vanity parade. Some people spend their lives showing other people how great they are, whilst failing to truly remember the things that matter.
Is that selfie you're taking with your Mom a memory for you to treasure forever? Or is it so that you can show the world what a great son / daughter you are by "taking care" of your parents publicly?
If you truly cared about helping the people who were starving, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have taken a selfie of yourself handing the homeless man some food with your "#kindness #gooddeed" nonsense. Why can't you just help someone? Why can't you just be a human without getting the praise of your "friend" circle?
Do you know what the sad part about your situation is? One day you're going to need someone to help you - you're going to rely on someone helping you in one way or another. I hope you won't mind when that someone does what you have done and publishes a photo of you receiving a handout for the world to see. I hope you won't be too ashamed as you stare at the ground with your moral fibre destroyed as you accept a food parcel with someone either filming you or taking a photo for their own social network of greatness.
What happened to spending time with our loved ones? Why is it, that now that the ability to interact (in some parts of the world) has been given back to us with the pandemic, you're still not making an effort to get off your phone? Why don't you look up from your computer or your cell phone and take a look at those around you? Those who matter. Those who you profess to love and cherish. They won't be there forever, do you really think that your fake selfies are going to be enough when it comes to waking up and realizing you have lost your person?
The bitter angriness online disgusts me
I don't understand why people feel the need to attack people in such disgusting and vicious ways. Let's take an example where I live - a journalist was accused of displaying racist micro-aggression by one of the political parties here because she asked a person of one race to put his mask on, but didn't ask a person of a different race to put his mask on. Let's be clear here, my opinion is that it was a race related issue, and I truly hope she is suspended from work (if I am correct) and that she is dealt with according to actual policies that exist.
Reading the news yesterday I saw that people had wished "abuse, death and rape" on her. Really? WHAT THE HELL HAS THIS WORLD TURNED INTO? When is it okay to wish rape on someone? How can we as a society expect to go forward in the world if this is the type of thing that we are turning into?
I won't get into the Royal Family and Prince Harry stuff, mainly because I really have zero knowledge about what, where, or how - but the grotesque nastiness? The vehement hatred for people you don't know? People who have got absolutely zero bearing on your life whatsoever, to be wishing death on them? What did they do to you? If you got your wishes of all the bad things - what would you gain from it?
Why is it happening?
I believe it's because of the divide which has been growing continually for years between the have's and the have-not's. That is an extremely simplified perspective because in reality it's somewhat like a web, everything is interlinked, but I feel if you look deep enough - the root of all evil will always be money (and the lack of it).
Take the people who have more money than brains - imagine needing to keep warm so you grab a newspaper to burn (knowing you're about to make an illegal fire but have no choice because you'll probably freeze if you don't). Can you imagine seeing one of the celebrities faces on it with one of the news articles of how much more money they've blown on something so insignificant - while you are starving? Or the arrogance that you get tarred with as you ask for food at a traffic light? The loss of dignity you feel when you are sleeping under a bridge at night, freezing cold?
People do not understand the problems of developing countries
Take my home country, I use the word home loosely because I despise it here and cannot wait to leave for good, despite being born here, this place hasn't been my home in years.
Over here, we have a growing divide between the very rich and the very poor. The poorest people of this country have gotten even poorer since our government decided to steal even more billions with irregular tenders relating to COVID-19, the middle class have become significantly poorer and the gap has widened. Those people who were JUST making it every month - they aren't making it anymore. The taxes go up every year, increase in food prices - wages stay the same.
The very rich are in a bubble of their own, they don't care about the suffering because they're "untouchable", they aren't at risk by the ills of the world today. Their life has remained the same. They see the people begging - they are rude, abrasive and speak to them in a tone I wouldn't even use on my dog.
Please open your eyes...
I just want you to open your eyes to humanity. Your fellow people who are crying out for help around you. If we all just share a helping hand a little bit instead of being so busy with our own worlds, our world would be a better place.
Spend some time with those people who are important to you.
Tell them you love them.
Let them know you are thankful they are in your life.
If you have extra groceries and see someone begging - help them. Give them something, anything. Help them to help themselves.
I wrote this because I logged into Facebook and saw what an utter quagmire of hell it has turned into - worse and worse every day. People slinging vulgar words at each other and being so utterly heartless.
Let's all make an impact and keep this platform as pure and good as it is.
