Β Her name is Irene Entica. She is a widow, has been for more than ten years already. She has five children, all grown up. She has nine grandchildren as of this writing.
Because of Alzheimerβs disease due to her diabetes, she can no longer remember some the names of her children and grandchildren. Sometimes she interchanged the names.
But despite of that she is still the queen of the family.
September 18 marks the 80th birthday of our Mom. Because of the pandemic and social gathering is not yet allowed, we cannot have a big birthday celebration like her 75th year celebration wherein we were able to invite her friends and a few neighbours.
Her 80th birthday celebration was quite intimate, aside from a friend priest, her visitors are her children and grandchildren only.
It was quite a noisy night. Her grandchildren are running here and there. It was the first time in a few months that they have seen each other. Loud voices and shouts were heard thru the night.
My sister, being the host of the night, planned the food two weeks ahead.
She has ordered the cake from her supplier. It was a moist chocolate cake. Itβs a delicious cake.
She also took care of the food. Some were ordered and some were cooked by her house staff. I also bought crabs to add to the food.
Outside, my daughters were preparing for their samgyupsal dish with kimchi. I was not able to get some pictures of their samgyupsal as I was already busy eating.
The friend priest drops by an hour into the celebration to greet my mom.Β
Then it was time for cake blowing and picture taking.
We were complete in our family picture, though my other brother was just in video call with us.
Donβt mind those two monkeys at the back, they always donβt pose for pictures seriously. Every time we have a family picture taken, these two are always doing something different.
And then it was time for the grandchildren to have their picture taken with their grandmother. The son of my brother in New Zealand is also on video call as he is living with his maternal grandmother in another province.
Though he was able to greet mom in a video form.
Overall, it was a successful birthday celebration!
Now on the road to 100 years! Cheers.
Thanks for celebrating with us. Hope you had your fill!

Happy belated birthday to her, and here's to wishing her many more years to come. As for Alzheimer's, it is a very sad and horrible disease.
