Manik Banerjee's life story

Manik Bandyopadhyay was born on 19 May 1906 in Dumka, Santal Pargana, Bihar. His ancestral home is at Bikrampur in Dhaka. Manik Bandyopadhyay's father's name is Harihar Bandyopadhyay and mother's name is Nirdasundari Devi. His father's name was Pravedhkumar Bandyopadhyay. Nickname Manik. He studied in different schools and colleges in Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. He lived only forty-eight years. While studying for his BSc at Presidency College, Calcutta, at the age of twenty, he made a name for himself by writing his first story, Atsimami. Then he wrote the rest of his life for twenty-eight years uninterruptedly. Sometimes he was involved in work and business for only three years, but the rest of the time he was engaged in literary work all the time. Manik is famous in Bengali literature as a writer of novels and short stories. In a short time he has written about forty novels and about three hundred short stories. He also wrote some poems, plays, essays and diaries. This science-minded writer has shown success in shaping the human psyche and inner life. At the same time, he has also signed as an artist of social reality. His famous novels are 'Janani', 'Dibaratrir Kavya', 'Padmanadir Majhi', 'Puppet Dance Itikatha', 'Chihna' etc. Notable among his famous short stories are: Prehistoric, "Reptile", "Taste of the Sea", "Leper's Wife", "Tiktiki", "Halud Parera", "Aaj Kal Parshur Galp", "Haraner Natjamai", "Chhet Bakulpur Jatri" etc. He breathed his last on December 3, 1956 in Calcutta.
