I guess before the creation of the mirror, people used pools of still water to look at themselves. This reminds me of the Greek myth of Narcissus. I wonder, what kind of mirror one needs to see oneself in? Besides, one has a mania to see oneself as better than one is. A mirror has the peculiarity of reflecting what is in front of it.
