Knowing how to keep silent is as difficult as saying the right words at the right time. Of course, we must distinguish prudence from cowardice and recklessness. Perhaps prudence is halfway between the two extremes. Someone can refute that the other extreme of cowardice is courage and not recklessness. They may be right, although being prudent requires more courage than people realize. A wise man is neither afraid nor carried away by impulses since he has transcended them.
