Can people give their lives for their language??
Do you know the people of Bangladesh had to sacrifice their lives for their language??? How far they went just for their language?? I won't brag the histories but I am just gonna give you guys some ideas about the movement we went through to protect our language. 1st of all I am gonna tell you, Bangladesh gained her independence in 1971 and before that, she was under Pakistan. And both Pakistan and India wwre colonized by England but the ruling ended in 1947 and both the country were created based on religion and we were under Pakistan. The struggle for our mother tongue began at 1948. Though 56% of East Pakistan used Bengali. The government wanted to eliminate Bengali language and wanted to establish Urdu as only state language. Their president announced several times that 'Urdu will be the only state language' and our students and people of all profession protested. Then the protest gained the form of movement. In 21st february 1952, the students of Dhaka University broke section 144 and continued the movement and the government of Pakistan order the police to open fire. Many students were killed mercilessly. Salam, Rafiq,Barkat,Jabbar were killed on that day and Safiur was killed on the following day in thw movement.
However, after a lot of struggle, finally we got Bengali as our mother language and also as the state language😁😁😁. We Bengali celebrate the day every year with both joy for getting our language and sorrow for the sacrifice of them. Do you know UNESCO has decared the day as 'International Mother Language Day'? Yes, 21st is that day. People all over the world show respect to their mother tongue on this day😅😅. And this day is celebrated in Bangladesh with great respect. We wake up very early and go to the morning procession and give flowers on the 'Shaheed minar'.
See, how much we put effort to celebrate this day to pay our homage to our language and also to the people who sacrified their life. Lots of histories and conspiracies behind this achivement. I tried to describe it smoothly. You know a wow fact about our language???It's been voted as the sweetest language of the world😍😍. Have a look
So celebrate this day with us and show respect to your language. It's odd I am showing respect to my language and writinh in English🤣🤣🤣 but that's the only way to make you understand.
Thanks guys for reading with patience😅😅

Great post.. Thanks for sharing such information..
Thank you. ☺☺☺
Pleasure
I wonder what criteria they have to judge a language as "sweet". Is it the sound of it? Is it how people express themselves with it? Language can be a matter of power. If the West-Pakistani had managed to force you all to speak only Urdu, your culture in time would have become like theirs and you would have lost important parts of your own. Language carries much of the culture. So that was a very important achievement.
Yes, language carries important part of culture and to be honest expressing our feeling in own language is the best. And about the sweet thing. Every language is sweet to to their people. May be they focused on the sound and rhythm combination. I don't know totally.
👏👏👏👏

Is Bengali the only language spoken in Bangladesh or are there other languages (besides English) ?
Most people use bengali but there are many dialects of bengali in different area. Somehow they modified a bit. And also there are small tribes in hilly region exp: Chakma, Marma, Khasia,Garo and lot many and they use their own language. But they know bengali also as it's necessary to communicate with people when they move to towns. And English is also compulsory in professional life as it is international language and we need it to deal with different multinational companies.
Do the small languages have the same rights as Bengali, or is Bengali the only state language?
No only bengali is the state language. As their number is very few. Very small tribe... May be 3-4% of the total population. But 56% people of the pakistan were bengali then
