7,000 years ago, the Romans opened a copper mine not far from where the village of Rudna Glava in Majdanpek is today. To be found, along with the Bulgarian Ai Bunar and the Dutch Rijkolt, near Maastricht, mining began in Europe.

The value of the "Ore Head" was increased by the discovery of an ancient gallery from the fourth century AD, which was intended for mining magnetic ore. Remains of wooden supports, iron tools and ceramic vessels again enabled accurate dating and proved that this was the first reliably established mining work from the late Roman period in the central Balkans.

A total of five hoards have been found at "Rudna Glava" during the research so far, about which this site is, so far, the only example among the earliest copper mines, discovered in any other area. It was established that the miners used deer antlers and picks in their work. Altars with stylized representations of deer heads were also found.
