And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25 What a story of encouragement and hope! Paul and Silas were in chains. They didn’t know what was in story for them, but in the midst of all that, what did they do? Did they cry and lament and beg to be released? No. They prayed and sang hymns. The "rejoiced in the Lord, always" and, as a result, they became an inspiration to the prisoners around them, and, later in the story, to the jailers themselves. Their story is inspirational even today. The idea that they could celebrate and sing praises in their suffering is encouraging to us all. Lord, Let me encouraged by the story of Paul and Silas. That they could sing in the midst of suffering is inspirational to me. Help me to have the kind of faith they had so that I, too, might be an encouragement to those around me. Amen.
