God had instructed Elijah to anoint Elisha as his successor. Elijah obeyed and carried out God’s instructions. Elisha did not take time to weigh his options. He responded to the call immediately, running up to Elijah and declaring that he was ready to follow him. Elisha knew what the call was going to cost him. He would have to leave his family and everything he had grown up with. But he counted the sacrifice worthy of the calling and acted immediately. He prepared a farewell meal for his family and when that was done he followed Elijah, becoming his right-hand man. As Christians, we have all be called to do something for God. We all have a part to play in representing God’s kingdom and spreading the word of God to the world. This does not mean that you have to become a pulpit minister. Pulpit ministry is not the only way to serve God. When you read through the word of God, especially in the New Testament, you will find that people served God in many different ways. There were apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, ministers of help, people who assisted with administration, etc. It is the same for today. -Chipo Biti KJV Bible
