Whispers of Desire – Part 6

The morning came slowly, with pale light slipping through the curtains. She had hardly slept. Each time she closed her eyes, flashes of last night returned — the officers, the broken house, Amara’s cries, Tunde’s silence… and the quiet strength of the man beside her. Amara was still asleep, curled up against her. But Tunde was awake, sitting in the corner with his head down. He looked troubled, as if carrying a secret too heavy to speak. She wanted to ask, but fear of the answer kept her quiet. When she stepped outside to clear her head, she found him already waiting on the porch. His eyes met hers, and for a moment, neither of them spoke. The memory of his hand on hers the night before still lingered, making her heart beat faster. Finally, he broke the silence. “Something is not right, and we need to know the truth. Whatever happened here last night, it’s not finished yet.” His words sank deep. She had felt it too — the unease in Tunde’s eyes, the strange way the officers avoided certain questions. The danger was not over. But in that same moment, standing close to him, she also felt something else — a bond pulling them together, stronger than fear. She didn’t say it aloud, but she knew it: she trusted him now, more than anyone. As the sun rose higher, she realised her life had changed forever. The whispers of desire were no longer just about longing. They had become her courage, her anchor, her hope for what lay ahead. And somewhere inside, she knew — the truth about last night would soon come out, and when it did, nothing would ever remain the same.
