The flower of sponge gourd or Luffa Cylindrica - At first, I think this beautiful bright yellow flower is pumpkin or squash flower that I found when walked around my property this morning. But actually it is a flower of sponge gourd. Yes, it is a flower that bearing fruit. I am not sure whether it is male or female flower of sponge gourd as my limited knowledge of this kind of yellow bright flower. The young fruit of sponge gourd is pretty juicy and sweet. I love to boiled young sponge gourd and eat with our traditional chili dipping sauce. The young fruit of sponge gourd is approximately 30 cms long that resembles in a shape and size of cucumber. The sponge gourd is also named as Egyptian cucumber or Vietnam Luffa and etc. The ripen fruit of sponge gourd is fibrous and not pleasant to eat but it will be used for scrubbing bath.
