A rain of volcanic ash hit Eastearn Sicily due to a new eruption of Etna. Volcanic ash are tiny particles of rocks and minerals ejected from the volcano during explosions. In explosions, rocks shatter, separating small particles from the magma. In the explosions the ashes mix with the steam creating a cloud of black smoke that carries the ashes over distances several kilometers long.
