DO THOSE WHO SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION EVER HAVE HAPPY MOMENTS??? I enquired about this with my colleague, who is seriously depressed, on medication, and attending counselling. To which she said, "unable to experience pure happiness any more" There are times when she feels happy, though not the genuine joy she remembers having before her depression state began. As if the depression had just slightly subsided or evaporated, but not sufficiently to qualify as genuine happiness. She is conscious that there is a problem when these insights occur. She fears that she will lose her sense of clarity and that the predictable darkness will reappear. Back to feeling numb and uneasy. Thus, she is continually affected by this dread. She feels as if she is handling life while wearing gloves. If that example makes sense, she can roughly guess what she should feel but cannot actually experience the feeling itself. Seeing her struggle to have any genuine emotion is so heartbreaking. It's like watching someone who is wearing a blindfold try to see. Even when she turns and glances in all directions in search of the "sight," all she can see are lighter areas of blackness. The person who was previously joyful, cheerful, chatty, inquisitive, innovative, and thoughtful has been replaced with an agitated, uncommunicative shell of a person. The person who once existed is absent, but we only see the exterior, apparently "normal" person. So what are these happy moments, you ask? No. There are only short moments of lift, that's all. And by brief, I mean. Just a few minutes—enough time to pick up a few breaths. Then she leaves once more. Her last real laugh hasn't been heard from her in years. There is only the occasional smile, which never reaches her eyes. 💔💔 #depression #sad-vibes Image source: Pixaby
