This time no one laughed at the end
And with an acrobatic Augusto or "Laughing Cake" as his clown's name is, he gave the end of his act and the show of the night in the circus of the fair. It was a long week with little public at the circus performances, but everyone had given their best in each act, in each appearance, especially Augusto, who wanted to surprise his wife that night.
Mr. George, the owner, boss and administrator of the circus gathered all his employees to give him his weekly pay, among them was Augusto, but when each one received his payment, they saw with an air of disgust and disappointment as it was only a few tickets, That would only be enough for a few days.
-Gentlemen, ladies, it's not my fault, you know as I do that the last performances have been somewhat lazy with the public, but better times are coming for all of us- (Mr. George said with a somewhat faked smile to lighten the mood ) and saying that, the tent of each acrobat, each clown, the magician, the trapeze artists, the dwarves was quickly cleared, they all went to rest for the next day.
Augusto quickly went out into the street, to an old flower shop, on the main avenue, to buy some white roses and some chocolates for his beloved.
He arrived a little sweaty but just before the store closed, but his joy rejuvenated as he imagined how his wife would be surprised by this detail, and singing or rather humming an old song, he walked between small jumps and slides on the sidewalk in the direction of home.
The night sky threatened to drop a strong and cold rain, not a star could be seen high in the firmament, not even the light of the lady moon.
And almost reaching the building where Augusto's apartment was, the clouds released the force of the water over the city.
Augusto entered the building escaping from the heavy rain, and energetically climbed the stairs until he reached the fourth floor where apartment 4-d was. That day, before leaving, he told his dear wife that he would be late, having planned the surprise perfectly.
With extreme caution and very slowly he opened the door, and without making the slightest noise he entered the apartment, but his expression of happiness was erased almost instantly, when he heard the voice of a man and his wife laugh and moan, followed by the grinding of her bed over and over again, in an almost rhythmic sequence.
He unconsciously dropped the white roses, which fell onto the welcome mat, and placed the box of chocolates clumsily on a table near the door. And in the same silence with which he entered, he left, closing the door almost without strength.
Overwhelmed with sadness, he didn't notice when he went downstairs and left the building.
his eyes pointed to the ground, all the brightness of his pupils had disappeared.
The tears that welled up mixed with the rain that fell on him.
And for a moment he thought, what kind of practical joke was this? what kind of trick life played on hers, who sacrificed everything just to see her happy, the person he considered her soulmate. He collapsed in the middle of the street, cross-legged. For him, the performance was over, but this time, no one laughed at the end.
