Genesis 17:15-16 15]

15]God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.

16] I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations, kings of peoples will come from her." God also changed Sarai's name to Sarah to remind Abraham that God will fulfill His promises not through Hagar and his son Ishmael but Sarai's own son.

Genesis 17:17-22

However, Abraham thought they were too old to have a son, so he prayed for Ishmael instead.

Abraham said to God:

Genesis 17:18 18]

"If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!"

But God said:

Genesis 17:19-21 19]

Yes but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

20] And as for Ishmael,..I will surely bless him, I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers... I will make him into a great nation.

21] But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year." Abraham innocently asked God to fulfill his promises to Ishmael instead, but God could not be tempted! Abraham will have a son by Sarah and will name him Isaac. God does not change His mind about His promises. He will always fulfill His promises for God cannot be tempted to lie. However, because Abraham prayed for Ishmael, God will also bless him and make him Ishmael into a great nation. But God will fulfill His covenant through Isaac as He promised.

Genesis 18:1-2

After a time, God appeared to Abraham again near the great trees of Mamre while Abraham was resting.

Genesis 18:2

Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. Abraham welcomed and served them.

Then the Lord said:

Genesis 18:10 10]

I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." God promised to be back and fulfill His promise. Do you think God would fulfill His promise? Any thought?

Let's have a coffee
