I'll fix the links another time. Maybe on thursday? But for now. I only have writings
Their regular meetups seemed to have come to a halt after that eventful night of confessions and as much as Linda had wanted to just go to his dorm and ask why, she had thought better and decided that Jean needed a break from her. Even after a week had passed, nothing. It was like he was trying to erase his existence from her life entirely. He was never at the dorm, nor was he found on the streets selling papers and she was unaware of where that publishing house was that he was working for. No trace at all.
At night she would make it a point to go to the pub in hopes of seeing the familiar figure on the piano but recently, she would just be there to drink and to just mindlessly watch people, hoping that something would strike her again as Jean did.
“Linda! Linda!” It was the pub owner, she was with her friend, Pierre “We have a proposal for you!” She seemed ecstatic yet Linda simply just offered her best smile to the pair
“What’s this amazing offer you’ve got to give me” She muttered before raising her glass to her lips for another sip of wine
“Well pierre here came up to me the other day and had this most amazing idea ever” She smiled from ear to ear, she seemed excited about the idea whilst Pierre grew bashful with the mention of his name “He thought that the artists that frequent this place could be allowed a bit of space on the walls where they can show off their paintings. It’s free advertising for you then free decorations for me. A win-win or if you wouldn’t mind sharing a percent of the sale, I would be happy to assist in sales talk too”
It was a good idea and if Linda wasn’t so down, she would have applauded the idea and even demanded the biggest space but right now, she could simply nod and say “I’ll bring my paintings when you’ve set up. Sounds good?”
They answered with excited cheers then left her to be, maybe to go on a hunt for more artists they knew that would agree to the idea. Or maybe they just sensed that she had wanted to be alone, either way, she enjoyed the peace.
The night grew darker and Linda sat in her spot until she was told that it was closing time. She had to force herself up and back to her apartment. Outside the Pub, there stood the awfully familiar figure she had been looking for all that time
“You’re dead wasted” Was all he said before he carried her up bridal style and walked her back despite all her protesting and squirming to be freed from his hold “Will you just stay still for a while, we’re almost to your place”
“No!!!! You left me-” She wasn’t even sure if it was the truth or if it was the alcohol speaking at that point after how many bottles of cheap wine she’s had.
Jean grew silent and placed her down once they arrived at her front door “I’m sorry. I just… needed to think”
“Don’t leave anymore” She clung onto his arm, her gaze pleading as she was tugging him into her apartment. He just simply followed.
As they walked into the apartment, he was in shock at how everything was in disarray. The books and paints were scattered, wine bottles everywhere but what stood out the most was the unfinished painting of him. It stayed in place, untouched.
She had waited for him all this time. But when he saw the painting, he noticed something and that it was the eyes. It was always the first thing he noticed in the paintings she showed him. His eyes, they were dark but they always looked more alive than he actually felt. There was something only she could see in him and in all that time. He only realized it now.
His attention turned to Linda who had just climbed on the bed, still tugging him by the arm “Stay with me please…” Her voice seemed so vulnerable in that moment and Jean was hesitating yet he stayed and told her that he would go when she fell asleep. In the end, the night passed by with him watching Linda as she drifted off to sleep.
