But Why Us?

Today, March 13, 2022 is the schedule of our antigen test as requirement before we will undergo our Electoral Board's Training starting tomorrow until Wednesday. Luckily, my result was negative. However, some results were positive but they undergone for reswabbing. If they have positive result again, they will be sent home. Fortunately, my companions were having negative results for the second time around. But there were two participants from our town went home because of another positive results. I felt sad for them because aside they we're not able to serve for this coming presidential and local election on May 9, 2022, they could not also receive the allowance or honorarium.

Speaking of election, do you wonder why teachers are being trusted to serve the election? Why not the lawyers who have knowledge on the legality of election? Why not the policemen who have the power to conduct a peaceful election? Why not the engineers or the doctors or any professions? Why us teachers? We have heavy workloads from preparing learning activity sheets until computing the grades of our learners. We have so many reports to be submitted monthly not including the necessary evidences to be placed in the SBM or School Based Management. But why us? Instead of complaining, I am happy that we are chosen to serve the election process not because of the honorarium I receive after the election, not because I can escape from many works in school but because the government strongly believes that teachers are people who can be trusted in the community in the sense that they serve as role models of the learners and other individuals. Teaching is a noblest profession throughout the whole world. It is the mother of all professions. Without teacher, there will be no doctors, engineers, lawyers, and many more. Though we are paid at low rate compared to other countries, we still have the passion to teach our learners and inspire them to be a good citizen and christian. We can't deny the fact that if not all, we, teachers have many loans but we're good payor. Different lending institutions want us teachers to avail their loan products because we are not delinquent to pay. But why us? Is it because that even in school, we are warned not to talk about politics because it only creates chaos in the workplace? Is that the reason why we are not allowed to make some comments from any post about politics in different sites like on facebook and twitter? Is that because even in the campaign period we are not allowed to join? Probably yes. Teachers play an important role in politics especially in handling the procedures in the conduct of election. Teachers are also public servants who are willing to sacrifice their work and family to accept the challenge just to wake up early on the election day and went home late morning on the next day. Teachers are promoters of good governance and risk takers to offer their lives for the country. Thank you for sparing your time and effort to read.
