Financial Freedom: Rule #2.1

The 10-YEARS Rule:

This rule has to do with the decision to buy new vs. used. Used Car: Pros. It's relatively more affordable. For obvious reasons, second hand cars are more affordable compared to brand new vehicles. ... Insurance rates are lower. Due to depreciation, the insurance rates for second hand cars are lower. New Car: If you want to maximize your car’s value, you should either buy used, or buy new and drive the car for 10 YEARS. REMEMBER: This rule consider the depreciation value. Depreciation: a reduction in the value of an asset with the passage of time, due in particular to wear and tear. NOTE: If you buy a new car and keep it for a decade, you’ll have optimized its value and the depreciation won’t matter as much.
