Today, I joined Mirror and published my first post. Suck it, Medium! If you would like to buy that popst (a repost from Pub0x that was popular; I even made the front page again) as an NFT, it will cost you the extravagant sum of 0.006 ETH (~$1.18). You'll probably pay more for gas, though, because Ethereum ... That's somewhat Ironic, since it's about why I'm not going to learn Solidity and go with Rust, Solana and ZCash instead. (Rust knowledge will be more widely applicable than just blockchain development, too.) https://www.publish0x.com/cryptographic-viking/mirror-mirror-on-the-web-whos-the-snarkiest-of-them-all-xgjmzmx https://mirror.xyz/0x7E34D99D4EfD9CBfdA379790Da9122ad2b10cfbD https://mirror.xyz/0x7E34D99D4EfD9CBfdA379790Da9122ad2b10cfbD/3e-KRyY_slrLvZbyq52n7gwa_NFmfa2oJn0KK_3Q-iM

I woke up this morning with a headache and an empty stomach. That's how I went to work. Six hours later, I came home with the same, but 630 banana bucks more in the bank. The current financial system is not to my advantage (nor that of anyone who is poor and/or working for wages), so I fart in its general direction. Goddamn weasels and fat cats! At least I will be able to pay my bills this month, but only just. I've still got the headache, so I'm going to bed early. I still need to find permanent employment, but that's a problem for tomorrow.

Maybe there are beautiful Christian communities that are doing good things somewhere, but I seriously have my doubts, given the values that "conservatives" actually have and teach their children (as opposed to the ones they claim to). If I see another Christian refer to the LGBTQ+ community as "a sickness"or "moral degeneracy" that "needs to be purged through the power of religion" so that "we can make America great again", there's no telling what I'll do. Those folks disgust me at a core level. https://www.publish0x.com/hunting-of-the-snark/down-with-the-sickness-xwypgvm

I'm tired of doing my best and it never being enough. I'm tired of doing what I think is good and right, but still being the bad guy. I'm tired of being one half of an army of two, because strangers treat me better than my own family. I need to do better, be stronger and work harder for longer and earn more, so that I can escape the life I have. Nobody deserves to be despised just for existing, or for being poor and struggling.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Eh, this week has not started at all well. I decided that, from now on, I will focus my time on finding employment that will keep me afloat on more than a month-to-month basis. That hasn't happened, since something always seems to go wrong when I'm determined to do something productive. For the last two days, I've had access to the Web but not my email. This morning, I managed to get in, finally, but then the power went out (and stayed out for five hours) as soon as I opened the first relevant item in my inbox. Eish. So as not to waste the day, I decided that I'll teach myself about AI development, since I might as well know exactly against what I have to content if I am going to stay relevant in the industry. I'll be posting a write-up/tutorial to Pub0x soon (since that still seems to be my best way to earn meager amounts of crypto, unfortunately mostly SPOT), but haven't yet got enough text to warrant that.

Since Simon has been absent from this site (or at least no longer responds to messages and mentions, or does any development on it), I am not thrilled and have decided to look for alternatives. Here's what alternativeto.net suggests for noise.cash (since noise.app isn't found in its search results): https://alternativeto.net/software/noise-cash/ Please keep in mind that I haven't yet looked at any of these (other than mylot, which pays USD to PayPal and isn't listed on alternative.to): + Minds: An open-source decentralised and privacy-focused social media platform + Flote: Decentralised social media network steering clear of Big Tech and vague community guidelines + Memo.cash: Micro-blogging platform using BCH. I know that @theEmpress uses it. IMO, it's the first one at which I'm going to look.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Hi, @simon I've tried to change my donation address for BCH, but it looks like I can't edit or remove the current one. What's with that? At any rate, it should now be this: bitcoincash:qq4em2hvjxx8hx9kpqgs32gkm6g2jc02qgquhtg5xl PS: When are we going to get the ability to pin posts, if ever? Have you simply lost interest in doing any further promised development on this site?

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Watching the Faithful Fiat Muppets getting their knickers in a knot over SVB collapsing is possibly one of the funniest things I've seen in the last twenty-four hours (even though I've watched Justin Hawkins critique things on YT). Did you not learn anything in 2008? Perhaps those who're slow on the uptake might realise that now might be a good opportunity to funnel some fiat into crypto. In other news, one of the exchanges I use has apparently locked wallets over the weekend (or something like that), without going into the details of why. I'm not sure if the message I received was legit. However, since I had less than $0.02 of BCH in it, I'm not concerned. I'll update my BCH address at some point.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Looking for permanent employment is a pain in the arse, but less so than working for the type of people who'd write code in Newspeak if it was a programming language. Worse is Better, you know? Goddamn muppets!

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Well, this got made at some point when I was mucking around. Would you like fries with that, Quentin? In the immortal words of Mr. Oizo (Quentin Dupieux): "Yeah, I know Quentin; he's a real jerk."

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Today, I tossed some motherf##ers in the bin, with the judicious use of the hand-to-face method. I've worked with some brilliant developers who've made me feel stupid and like I'm ship's anchor (which, truth be told, I probably was). These jokers, however, made me feel like Lord Kelvin in comparison to them. Numbskulls. I am really very far from being that good of a developer. If I ever start to feel otherwise, there's something wrong. I've still got a copy of their source code. It'll be interesting to see what the PHP FIG PSR checker tool reveals about it. Maybe I'll take some screenshots of that, and then some "before and after" ones of the diffs when I've refactored it. That should certainly be interesting. https://www.publish0x.com/back-to-the-source/i-refuse-to-deliberately-write-any-more-buggy-and-smelly-cod-xvmqqyp

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

I finally managed to get Noise to open in the right container without asking me. Sometimes, when presented with the home page of Presearch and the 'What are you looking for today?" placeholder text in the main search box, I am tempted to type "your mom" and hit enter, although I never do. How very mature of me, right? I know! Also, I could do with more chocolate in my life. Like BCH, I never seem to have enough. That is all, for now.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Aargh, trying to work with an idiot whom I suspect understands less about how to use git than I do (which isn't much) and failing to explain that to him is frustrating, to say the least. I've wasted at least two days on it and I suspect that the problem still isn't solved. https://www.publish0x.com/back-to-the-source/git-keeps-reporting-whole-files-changed-when-i-merge-branche-xwyddwk The only work-around I have is to skip merging into develop and then main, instead testing hotfix branches and merging those into main. I am not happy doing that, but I've already lost too much time on this.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

I do sometimes seriously wonder about the agendas and values that advertising pushes, in various forms. For example: Physical appearance and ability to perform domestic chores well is more important than intelligence, personality traits and a diverse set of life skills (particularly if one is a woman). Nothing fixes relationship problems quite like a good shag! Yeesh! Dare to be vapid, basically. [Insert The Sex Pistols' "Pretty Vacant" here.]

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

I do not consent to the use of products and/or services that compromise/violate my privacy and/or security, especially/particularly by participating in Surveillance Capitalism (bulk-collecting, mining and selling users' personal data to third parties, for profit). I am actively taking steps to eliminate such destructive technologies from my life (or, if it is currently impossible/impractical to do so, severely limit their impact). He whom would sacrifice privacy and security for convenience deserves none of them and will lose them all. @GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

As I write this, I've recently checked my email, to find a message from Google in my personal inbox, asking me to confirm that I want mail from a business email address someone set up forwarded to it, without them bothering to ask me if I was OK with that. Having taken pains to get away from Big Tech's mass surveillance and bulk data collection, I don't want Google even knowing that address exists, let alone handling mail going to it (even if encrypted with PGP beforehand). I am not at all happy with having my consent/privacy violated. Talk about being disrespected by corporations! I don't even know if there's a way to request all record of an address be expunged from Google's data (or, if there is, they'll actually honour it), let alone set up something that reports the address non-existent to certain mailer daemons. At least Protonmail allows me to block individual addresses so that mail from them doesn't even get as far as my inbox/spam directories/filters, but it would be great if I could blacklist entire domains: No more GMail, Hotmail or Yahoo! Extending that functionality is a requested feature. (I'm not sure if the mail actually bounces, such as when sent to a non-existent address, or if it's just deleted off Proton Mail's server when it arrives. I hope it's the former option, if that's even possible.) The irony is that I can't log into the help & support site (or create an account thereon) because it uses magic, but the magic doesn't work. “And that's what I don't like about magic, Captain. Because it's *magic*. You can't ask questions; it's magic. It doesn't explain anything; it's magic. You don't know where it comes from; it's magic! That's what I don't like about magic, it does everything by magic!” ― Sam Vimes (Terry Pratchett)

Today in installing ubuntu 22.10 server (Kinetic Kudu) on a VM: workdir=/cow/ork I guess Ubuntu has cow orkers too!

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Blind emailing is generally pointless, since there's no guarantee of getting a response. Based on that, I was understandably somewhat surprised that I got a response, within a few hours, to one of my blind mails to development companies near where I live. Woot! I don't know if anything will come of it, but I might have at least one freelance project to do and get paid for it, which is better than nothing.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Honestly, HCAPTCHAs are becoming quite opinionated. Who is to say what a cow's natural environment actually is? We trap them in fields for most of their lives, so maybe they would be quite happy sunbathing on the beach if they were given the chance. For all we know, they probably would. Jumping off bridges into water, though, probably not. I bet cows would say the same of humans, yet some of us do jump off bridges into water, sometimes never to be seen again (or at least not alive, probably because we trap each other in dead-end jobs and relationships for most of our lives) ...

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

Trying to finish writing an informative introduction to crypto while I've got a massive headache is not fun. My brain is just going "hard nope" to this one. I'm leaving it for another day (which is annoying, because I'm almost finished).

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

The sooner I learn blockchain development and get into the Web 3.0 scene, the better. I am sick of centralised dung heaps of bullshit and hypocrisy, run by autocratic, megalomaniac technocrats. Fakebook, Fartloaf and their ilk can disappear down black holes to the manosphere (along with their staff), as far as I'm concerned. I'm done with trying to have any presence there that isn't crowded out by titanic shitebergs. I really need to get to a point in my life where there are no other people in it and I can enjoy the peace of my own company in solitude. Anything less is just going to keep angering and disappointing me.

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

I'm not going to lie. I was starting to miss Web 2.0 antisocial media, only a few days after closing my last account. Then I went through the "Social Media" notifications in my inbox. I've been asking myself "Who are these people and why the F does Twitter think I GAF about what they've ejaculated onto that POS site (especially since I stopped using my account months ago)?" Then I saw some from Natalie Wynn (and a few from The Church of Satan) and went "Oh, yeah, now I remember ..." Anyway, my inbox now has a few more MBs of unused space as a result (not that it makes much difference to the several GBs already currently available).

@GreatWhiteSnarkOnNoiseApp

I fed the pooches and now my hands smell like pilchards. I don't mind eating them, but I am not thrilled about smelling like them (pilchards, not the pooches). In unrelated news: Since everyone in crypto whom writes about it seems to write at least one obligatory noob-friendly introductory tutorial on it, here's part one of mine: https://www.publish0x.com/back-to-the-source/deciphering-cryptocurrencies-a-hopefully-noob-friendly-compe-xgjwpvr?a=oQeZVJGJep&tid=Noise&t=Noise Hopefully, it's not too condensed/dumbed-down to be of any value. Also, I've received my first BCH tip in at least two weeks, possibly longer. I was beginning to think posting on Noise was no longer worth my while. Thank you, kind person, whomever you are.
