It is easy to see how, for example, a child growing up in a house where a parent with untreated depression models hopelessness and helplessness from the start, could shape the child's tendency to evolve a pessimistic worldview which is, well, depressing. In our case, it's not proven but what happened was so obvious! This is my biggest fear of raising kids.
