Bank Indonesia (BI) is considering the idea of creating a digital currency denominated in rupiah in line with global trends, but Indonesian stakeholders and observers told The Jakarta Post that the plan is still a long way off despite the potential benefits. According to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), 86 percent of central banks worldwide are involved in central bank digital currency (CBDC)-related activities, with many still in the experimental phase. These activities are in response to the increasing adoption of cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Dogecoin and, by far the largest market cap, Bitcoin. While some countries such as China and Sweden have seen positive feedback on their CBDC trials, others have failed. Among the latter is Ecuador. #CryptoTrading
