Today in my country, buying a sim card is like buying Bitcoin from an exchange. You must need to complete a KYC before you can get a sim card and the price is no longer for the poor. Since the Nigerian government has ordered mobile network providers to have their customers link their sim card to their national identification number, getting a sim card become a hot cake, the price of a sim card skyrocketed. The worst part of it is that getting a national identification number isn't an easy thing at all. If you don't have a NIN you can buy a sim card. This has affected the mobile phone business gravely. Governments are parasites.
But in Pakistan sim prices are normal. Even poor can easily buy. Most of the networks provide free sims as well. KYC is also essential here.
It was once like that in Nigeria too
