Surviving Storms Is Easy, But Surviving Injustice Isn’t. At this time, Typhoon 'Paolo' (Matmo) has already left our area. We were under signal number 2, and we started feeling it yesterday, I think around 1 PM. But I don’t know—maybe it’s just me getting older—but it feels like typhoons coming and going have become normal for me now. Even the occasional power outages feel ordinary. I just sleep through it, and when I wake up…it’s gone.

Still, I can’t stop feeling sorry for the people affected by the typhoon, especially those who became victims of the government’s flood control projects, because with the nonstop rain, it seems like some areas still haven’t been properly fixed. On top of that, just recently there was an earthquake in parts of Cebu. I see on social media how much they’re going through right now.

It frustrates me because why must innocent people suffer? Why can’t disasters like these just strike the homes of corrupt government officials instead? They live peacefully, while so many ordinary people are suffering because of them. So much has happened these past days… but here I am, unable to do anything except pray. I’m not a contractor’s child, I don’t have material things to offer—prayer is the only thing I can give. Prayers for the struggles my fellow Filipinos are facing right now.
