The things my Family does during Christmas.

December 2, 2021. Thursday.

What does your family always do on Christmas day?

That’s my topic for today. After all, Christmas is really coming soon and we only have 23 days to wait.

But actually my family is busier on December 24, the day before the Christmas . Even I was more busy that day. That is the day when we cook all the food for our Noche Buena. December 24 morning, we were shopping in the public market here with us. It's a big market and there are so many people because it's Christmas time and those who are busy with their work are only shopping that day. We, on the other hand, are really used to going to the market on Disperas because we don't want that the food we buy or the food we will cook will not be spoiled. But that's what we've been able to do before, before the pandemic.

Last year I didn't go to the market and my mom didn't go to the public market either. Back then we were all in the market with grandpa, grandma, mom, sister and me. But since last year there was a virus that was spreading, Mama was the only one who sold everything we will cook. She also didn't buy everything we used to cook every Noche Buena because she was the only one who went to the market and was also a little short of money because not everyone here at home has a job that time.

But before the pandemic, on December 24 we also bought clothes at the Night Market here in our area. The clothes we buy are for us to wear on Christmas day itself and that is what we are going to wear when we go to the church and the other clothes are for our exchange gift. The others don't give clothes as gifts but I'm used to giving only clothes as gifts hahhaha. 5:00 pm of December 24 we will go to the Night Market to buy everything we need and to reach for our exchange gift which will also be held after our Noche Buena. We don't buy expensive gifts, in fact our budget for the exchange gift is only 200 pesos hahahha. But that's amount is already enough so we can buy even a simple gift for exchange gift.

Because we go to the market in the morning, at noon we are already cooking the foods that we buy so that when the afternoon comes, we will be able to go to the Night Market. By the way, we were shopping early then, we woke up around 5:00 am and at 6:00 am we would leave the house and go to the market. We get up early so that there aren't too many people in the market, when there are as many people as there are, we can really take a long time to go to the market because the people are so crowded. About 10:00 am we are done shopping and when we get home we will just have lunch and start cooking all the food we will prepare for Noche Buena.

And at twelve o'clock, the whole family and I will eat our prepared food. We were also wearing our new clothes we bought at the Night Market hahahha. And after dinner it was there that we held the exchange gifts. That’s one of the happiest things that happens at our Christmas because it feels so good when you receive a gift. But in terms of giving Christmas money, we don’t do that at night because my grandparents believe that when it’s night we shouldn’t take out our money anymore.

After we do everything that we do on Noche Buena and the exchange gift then we will go to sleep because in the morning we will go to church. After we go to church, we sometimes go to some of our relatives, the ones we are invited to. And sometimes after we go to church we are just at home because our relatives is the one who comes to our house.

But all that happened before the pandemic. Just last year, people, especially children, could not go out. We didn't have any guests and we were the ones who really celebrated Christmas. We also couldn't exchange gifts last year because other members of our family hadn't a budget to buy for exchange gifts and their money is enough only to buy foods. Of course we couldn't go to church either because that wasn't allowed last year so we just watched the online mass.

And that’s what we do every Christmas Eve and Christmas day itself. I really miss the free Christmas again and we can be with our loved ones and we can also roam and get out of the house. Hopefully this Christmas the restriction will somehow be loosened. But that is not vague because the number of Covid Cases in our country is declining and many are getting vaccinated and maybe we will soon reach the Herd immunity that we need. So let's just really trust and wait.

And that's all for today. Thank you very much for reading and hope you enjoy this. Until again.

I love on how you celebrate your Christmas langga. Went into the night market is really super fun. I experience that also when I was in Cebu. Night market is perfectly awesome.

I missed those times, celebrating the Christmas Eve Langga before the pandemic. When we were busy buying our foods then went home and after, busy cooking at the house. I missed those days.❤️
