“What could be wrong with me?”, “Do I deserve to live?”, “ Why was I even born?”, “Why am I still alive?” “ Will I ever be happy?”, “ There never seems to be an end to this!”, “Will someone help me?”, “Does someone care about me?” People with depression often ask themselves these questions. Most of the time, their minds are in mayhem, filled with too many whys and what ifs. Then this leads to negative thoughts that drown out the positive thoughts. Then they feel suffocated and uneasy. Sometimes people with depression don’t look like they are depressed because they tell themselves that they are strong and that they are okay. They feel like it’s more easy to show others that they seem well. What can we do about this? Most of the people with depression don’t seek help. Somehow people, suffering from depression also lack the capability of reaching out to others. So, if we know someone who is depressed, let us not wait for them to reach out to us.We should reach out to them. Say a few things to say to them like: “You can talk to me about anything”, “I will stay with you for as long as you need me”, “I’ll always be here to listen.”, “I will be here if you need anything”, “I love you, no matter what you think”, “I’m so proud of you”, “There is hope”,and “YOU are brave for opening up (about what you’re feeling)”. If you know someone who is downhearted, try to do subtle things for them like giving them a pat on the back. Something like this will surely make a positive and big impact on them. Just be patient with them. For those who are currently experiencing depression, just think of the famous line, “Know that it’s okay not to be okay”. It’s okay to show your weak self. Do not be afraid to seek help. There is nothing wrong with showing your vulnerability. Imperfections are part of who we are and always remember that you are not alone. There will always be someone who will care about you and love you. Open up to a friend. Depression is something that you should never be ashamed of. The pandemic could give everyone a lot of stress .Questions and doubts may give us feelings of uncertainty. But know that there is hope and we should all keep fighting. Let us keep ourselves mentally healthy.
