Many times China announced crypto bans, many times these bans were weaker than expected. Last two bans are on the contrary strong: the first to hit mining and investing in homeland, the last investing and above working for foreign crypto projects: https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2021/09/24/chinas-latest-crypto-ban-is-its-most-severe-insiders-say/ Brains: if you want to stop brains you’ve perfectly understood which is the power of crypto, the transformation of a financial value into an intrinsic tech value. It requires brains, and China wants to remove the fuel to this transformation. Usually, this kind of policies doesn’t work. Indeed, if the rest of the world will continue to work on blockchains, the penetration in society, finance, industry, web applications and services will be so huge that working on SOFTWARE will give fuel (directly or indirectly) to blockchains. Therefore I’m very surprised of this decision. The only thing which can justify this ban is that China wants to develop a quantum computing supremacy to crack all blockchains, something that I think it’s simply impossible. It could give a strategic advantage to let crypto spread elsewhere and then crack everything, but if something is impossibile I would not rely on it.
