Air freshener production at college today (Day 3)

If you all can recollect just few days back, about an article I wrote termed "liquid soap making at college today". Yeah, here is another version of it. Just like I said earlier that day, the program is set to hold for eight (8) good weeks. We were about concluding a week now and ever since, series of experiments have been carried out.

Two days ago i.e (Monday), before the commencement of the program, we were distributed into groups which were four (4) in number. So each groups were told to perform different experiments and defend them. Ours turned out to be "liquid soap production" while others were given different projects which I couldn't remember them all. It's indeed a "skill acquisition program" that helps we students to explore more training asides our field of study which might create job opportunities for us or which we can start a business with in the nearest future.

So, today likewise too, we were taught how to produce air freshener.

Yeah, what do you understand by an air freshener?

An air freshener is a substance that contains different chemicals which is used to neutralize unpleasant odours or scents when sprayed in the environment such as homes, offices, shops etc. It's sole importance is to prevent the environment from germs and infections when applied which makes it get healthier and smell nice.

Apparatus used;

• Measuring cylinder

• Plastic bucket

• Stirrer (a wooden stick used for stirring the mixture)

• Water

• Chemicals substances like (methanol, catalyst, perfume, texapon etc.)

During the experiment, we also took some precautionary measures almost like i stated few days ago. Precautions like;

• Putting on safety wears which includes (long-sleeved laboratory coats, safety shoes, hand gloves, nose masks, safety glasses or eye glasses etc.) all to avoid direct skin contact to harmful chemicals.

• Following ,comprehending and abiding by owners manual at all times.

• Appropriate mixture of the chemicals to prevent incorrect experiment results.

The experiment really went nice and perfect today too as we did all what we were instructed to do and each groups were graded appropriately according to their performance. We also had a presentation individually on what we've been learning so far, all to ensure everyone understands the aims and objectives of the experiment. Also, each member of the group, took a little sample of the experiment (air freshener) home for use and recommendation.
