The Lost Time" *My name is Louis. I was born in a small village in the south of France. My whole life, I lived here. I worked on the farm with my father, ran through the narrow streets of the village, and grew up with the smells of my mother’s cooking in the kitchen. It was always peaceful, always calm. But that peace... I never truly understood its value.* *When I was young, I used to dream a lot. "One day, I'll travel the world," I'd say. I always wanted to see other places, meet new people, and truly learn what it meant to live. But I never left my village. My family always supported me, but I never left. I had excuses. "One day I’ll go," I’d tell myself, "but for now, I’ll spend time with my mother and father." But that day never came.* *One morning, I had no idea that my life was about to change forever. My father suddenly fell ill. I didn’t understand what was happening until I rushed to the village doctor, who told me that my father had suffered a heart attack. "We need to get him to the hospital right away," said the doctor. In that moment, time seemed to stop. I rushed out of our house and headed towards the hospital. But as I drove, something struck me: the past. I had wasted so much time. I had no moments left to share with my parents. So much time was lost.* *As I drove to the hospital, I realized how quickly the years had passed and how easy it is for someone to waste time when they don’t truly appreciate it. I finally understood. I rushed to the hospital, but by the time I arrived, my father was already in the ICU. The doctors said, “There’s no hope.” In a moment, everything had changed. I didn’t get the chance to talk to him. As I held his hand, I saw the regret in his eyes. He had realized how much time we had lost. I had always hoped that my father would be brave enough to show me the world, but like me, he never realized how quickly time passes.* *A week later, my mother fell ill as well. Everything happened so fast. Everyone was gone, as if we were just bystanders in the middle of life. Before my mother passed, she held me one last time and whispered, “I didn’t spend enough time with you.” And I hadn’t spent enough time with her. In that moment, I felt the crushing weight of regret—a regret I could never undo. Time was already gone. My mother passed away a few weeks later.* *Now, I was alone in the house. I felt this enormous void inside me, a void that could never be filled with the lost time. But now, I finally understood what I had been avoiding for so long. Why hadn’t I left? Why had I wasted so much time? Why had I always said, "One day I’ll go," but never actually gone? There was something missing, but the biggest missing thing was the time I had lost with them.* *One morning, I realized I no longer wanted to live my life in this village. I had to leave. But as you know, it was too late. That time was already gone. I couldn’t bring it back.* *And now, as I look back... How much time I had wasted. So much time... All that’s left is the memories and the regret. But perhaps, at least now I understand: once time is lost, it never comes back.*
