My Dream Of Getting a Dutch Citizenship And Rich Life I attended the first meeting for the PVT (Participatie Verklaringstraject) last Tuesday here in Arnhem. The PVT is part of the integration program designed to help newcomers learn about Dutch values, society, and what it means to participate fully in the community. During the session, one of the questions asked was: "Wat is jouw droom in Nederland?" Or in English, "What is your dream in the Netherlands?"

I wrote my answer on a sticky note: "Mijn droom in Nederland is om het Nederlandse staatsburgerschap te krijgen en een rijk leven te leiden." (Translation: “My dream in the Netherlands is to obtain Dutch citizenship and to lead a rich life.”) At that moment, I wrote it down almost automatically, because it felt like the ultimate goal when you move abroad - to become a citizen of the country you now call home. But later, as I thought about it more deeply, I realized that dreams don’t always have to be something big or far away in the future. When I said I dream of having a “rich life” in the Netherlands, I don’t mean rich only in the financial sense. For me, a rich life means having peace of mind, good health, a loving home, genuine friendships, and the freedom to do the things that make life meaningful. It’s about feeling truly at home here: celebrating the little victories, learning from challenges, and cherishing each step along the way. And maybe that’s the real dream. Not just reaching the destination of citizenship, but embracing the journey of becoming part of this country. 🌷🇳🇱✨
