The Day I Overslept and Missed My Pharmacology Exam. I had spent the entire night preparing for my pharmacology exam the next day. In pharmacy school, our exams are usually back-to-back—no space to rest, no time to breathe—Monday to Friday, sometimes even Saturday. I was tired but confident because I had to read. I started reading from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. By 5:00 a.m., I decided to return to the hostel to rest before the 9:00 a.m. exam. I make sure that every key drug name and mechanism of action danced in my mind as I left the night class. By 7:00 a.m., I told myself, “I’ll just rest my eyes for a bit before the 9:00 a.m. paper.” I also told my roommate to wake me up by 8:00 a.m. so I could bathe, eat, and prepare for the exam. That “bit” of sleep turned into the heaviest sleep I’ve ever had. Guess what, when I woke up, I checked my phone—it was already 11:15 a.m.! I jumped out of bed in shock. My roommate hadn’t woken me up; she was watching movies on her bed. I screamed, dressed up in a rush, grabbed my pen and ID card—i didn’t even bother to wear my bra—and ran to the exam hall. Immediately I got there, They were already submitting their scripts. The exam was over. What a life... I couldn’t cry or scream. My friends didn’t even come to call me for the exam, I asked myself . I walked back to the hostel and sat on the edge of my bed in shock, feeling a wave of fear and shame. I cried like never before. After all that effort, all that “jacking,” I still missed the paper.A carryover....I screamed. I cried so much I couldn’t even prepare for the next day’s exam. I was seeing two things at the same time. All my roommate could say was, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” What will sorry do? I asked her. But missing that exam taught me something I didn’t expect: sometimes, discipline isn’t just about studying hard—it’s about resting wisely too. Since then, I always plan my rest as carefully as my study schedule.
