I'm not sure what the cross was for I saw while diving the other day. But I made sure to get a pic of it. I also saw a small Budda statue to underwater.

It's really a cross, really amazing
I have found all kinds of strange objects left by others while I have been metal detecting certain locations in South Florida all the times it’s Santeria objects have found a complete cremation urn the only thing in it was a Stone crab 🦀
If it has historical value, you can take it to the museum. Or if you let them know, they'll come and investigate.
