We are sitting on a Keg of Gun Powder

Are you wondering whom I am talking about in this post? Well, for clarity sake, we are all sitting on a keg of gun powder but what happens next or what we do at the moment matters a lot in saving us from the impending danger. Lol… are you scared of what you just read now? You don’t have to be unless you are a Nigerian living at home or in Diaspora. So to all my Nigerian brothers and sisters, I hope you all are getting ready for what it is to come. Call me a prophet of doom or whatever you like, it is high time we started looking at issues the way they are and not with sentiments.

Let me use this medium to wish my Nigerian brothers and sisters Happy Independence day celebration. No matter what or how we want to be optimistic about the challenges we have facing in Nigeria, we should not forget that there is a limit to what humans can endure. Yes we are celebrating our independence but are truly independent? Before I used to think that the Western world is the problem of Nigeria but I am beginning to think differently after listening to our Presidents Independence Day speech. This is the link where you will get to read the speech and probably watch the video for yourself. https://www.channelstv.com/2021/10/01/president-buharis-full-61st-independence-anniversary-speech/

I have not seen a country where it’s Government does not value the life of its citizens even when it is very clear that there is incessant killings happening all over the country. If we are talking about the so-called Bandits, it is the Bokoharam and their wickedness which seems to be overwhelming for the military to handle. I don’t want to believe that the government up till this moment cannot stop these killings. What baffles me is that we here how the bandits meets with the government spokesperson who is a renowned Islamic cleric. Now, this makes me wonder, is that the military cannot invade or attack the bandits since the already know where they are? This is just the same thing we heard over the years when we were being told that the Boko haram terrorists are residing inside sambisa forest but up till today they have not been pushed out of the forest. Just in today’s speech by the president, you would have read when he said that over 7000 Boko haram members have surrendered. This leaves me to wander, where are these bokoharam members kept? What are their names or where are they from?

It is easy for us to hear the government over the radio or on the television telling us how they have sacked or conquered bokoharam while in reality the country is still under serious siege. I am not here just to talk about bokoharam, I am here to tell the world and anyone who cares to listen that Nigeria is gracefully sitting on a keg of gun powder which will not just explode moment from now, but will affect everybody including other countries especially Africa. The world should not keep blind eyes to what is happening in Nigeria because it will one day escalate and by then no one will be able to control it. Look at what happened to Afghanistan, it is not far-fetched because it is still the same case of insurgents. One day we will wake up to find out that Nigeria has been overrun by insurgents. The National Assembly i.e. the Senate has advised the government to declare the bandits terrorists but what did the president do?

He spent time talking about those who are agitating for their freedom because of the government’s inability to do the right thing. I remember that it did not take the President a month to declare the Indigenous People of Biafra a terrorist group, meanwhile there has not been any record of them engaging in any form of attack either on military outfits or communities as a means to take over the community. What have we been seeing or hearing? The bandits have sacked not just one communities but several communities and they have carried out this attacks not just on communities or civilians, they have also attacked military outfit and succeeded in kidnapping top officers of the force yet the president is taking forever to declare them a terrorist group. There has never been a day that passed that we have not heard of bandits attacking and killing both civilians and military men alike. How can we have faith in a government that is so subtle when it comes to the life and property of its citizens?

As a Nigerian, I am always leaving in fear of the unknown because of the level of security breakdown in the country. Our economy is nothing to write home about because as the day goes by, our currency depreciates leaving us to wallow in abject poverty. Yes we are celebrating our independence, but have we been able to learn from the mistakes of the past so that we don’t end up repeating it again? The answer is simple, we have not learnt from our mistake which is why I strongly believe that what we will witness in future will be very detrimental to all of us. We have failed and have continued to fail as a people who are blessed by Mother Nature. We have allowed our selfish interests to come in-between our blessings as a people. I wish the world will hear my voice now because tomorrow might be too late. We have reached our limit and elasticity as a people which is why I believe that we need help from the word before is too late. SOS!!!! Somebody Help!!!
