Reminiscing on the Memories of the Past

Just like every newborn baby, I was once a baby born with millions of potentials and gifts from Mother Nature. These gifts and potentials were given to many and not just me. To those who were able to recognise it earlier than others, they were able to live like masters and controllers of many. Just as we have seen in the colonial stories of all the colonized countries of the world where countries that are unable to utilize the potentials and gifts Mother Nature deposited in them were turned into servants even in their lands. The only thing which will make it easier for a man to venture into the house of another man and take over his lands, gifts, natural resources and so many other things is because he was able to realize and understand the numerous gifts which he used to control the other. What can we learn from this? You must have noticed that one time in your life and even now, you lived a life of dependency on others which gave room for them to either control your actions fully or partially. The one thing that has been known by all is that history repeats itself but the challenge people do have is not knowing or understanding that what they are facing has already happened in the past and this is because most times we fail to reminisce on the event of the past.

We are meant to understand that nothing happens out of the ordinary which means that anything that happens has a connection to the past if carefully looked at. This leads me into asking you this question. When was the last time you looked at your past in a bid not to allow a mistake to repeat itself? It may interest you to know that what the world is facing now has been happening before now but the major problem why we did not notice was because we failed to look at the past. We are living in a world where the study of history is gradually dwindling because of the quest for easy and quick money and also lack of interest by the youths to study the past as a way to know and understand past events that moulded the world both positively and negatively.

Have we taken corrections?

I can categorically state that we are comfortably living our lives as people who do not care about the past and its connection to the future. This is more evident in the way we react when there is an issue that affects the economy and especially the security of the world we live in. When the world was visited by covid19, it shook the world and took the world by surprise. It was probably because we lost track of such events which has happened in the past thereby studying both its cause and effects in a bid to live five steps ahead of any similar outbreak. We are still living in the mistakes of yesterday especially in countries within the shores of Africa. We hear drums of war, rebellion, banditry and even stories of militia groups trying to topple a democratic government either because the government has refused to play by their rule or because of sheer greed and quest for power. Let us use Nigeria as a case study.

What we have failed to learn from

Source

It may sound or mean nothing to most of us but the truth is that what we are witnessing in Nigeria today is just a reoccurrence of the past which was neglected out of carelessness. If you can recall what happened before and during the Nigerian civil war, you will see traces of past events happening again. This is a clear sign that if nothing is done very fast, the type of killings or should I say genocide that happened in the past will be witnessed again. It is very disheartening that the world is silent probably because those world powers are looking forward to having another war-torn country in Africa where they will come and lord over again just as they are already doing in Libya and other war-torn African countries. If we do not speak up now, there will be a time when solutions may not work thereby plunging the entire country into anarchy and destruction.

When I look at how the world government reacts when there is a threat to life especially outside the shores of Africa, it makes me wonder if Africa is truly independent or are in Africa not independent? Do not misunderstand the tune of this article because it is not sounding all praises for the world powers rather look at the points raised and try to understand why and how we can make things better. Even though we all know that death is an inevitable end to every living being, that does not mean that we will now allow ourselves to fall into death by our careless actions. Just imagine the number of people who were killed in the bombardment that happened between Israel and Gaza. Most of them were children who were born with potential and gifts that can change the world positively. These were children whose parents were so happy on their arrival and now, they are no more and yet we have not learnt from the mistakes of the past. If we are only waiting for the war to come before we can try to calm the situations arising in different parts of the world which has the potential to put human existence into jeopardy, then we are more or less living without referring to the past.

A wise man prepares for the future by studying the past while a foolish man destroys the past to give room for the future. The extent to which the world has gone and in this technological age, we should not allow wars to come before we can be able to end them. We must put great importance on the life of every individual on earth irrespective of race, religion, political affiliation and belief.

I love you.

I loved it when you said, "I was once a baby born with millions of potentials and gifts from Mother Nature." We are indeed have our own different talents and sometimes, people say we got that talents from our parents or ancestors, which basically talks about our past. I, myself, don't like the History subject during my high school days. I found it boring - familiarizing those dates, events and such. But, as I grew up, I learned the importance of the past - that we are not who we are right now if it's not because of our past. The importance of studying the past will help us cope with the diversity in our present world. It's such a nice idea and content. Great job! 👏❤️

No one talks about the future without the past, therefore, we should make every effort to study and understand the events of the past to be able to live in the present.
