The Change Starts With You And Me.

This article is born out of the happenings I have witnessed so many times in my life. It is all about human beings and their sycophancy. Severally we complain so much about our government inability in making policies that will change our standard of living for good and in extreme cases we go into the streets to protest just to make them understand that we are not happy with what and how the country is been run.

This act is more prominent in and around the continent of Africa and this is why we hear cases of one man or family ruling a country of over 200 million people in population for more than 20 years even when it is obvious that they have not been doing well in the office.   It is not only obtainable in government. Even in our immediate and extended families where a member of the family is known to be notorious, just because he sprays money around everyone sees him/her as a saint and no one will have the guts to either talk some sense into him/her or even try to challenge him/her because of the fear of losing the little favours they are getting from this person. This has become the reason or what prompted me into penning down this article as a way of speaking to our hearts for a great change both in our families and countries at large.   Now let us look at the word sycophant. For a clearer understanding, I will pose this question. Who is a sycophant? A sycophant is a person who praises or flatters another person without an atom of sincerity. They are people whose work or business is to sing praises of a government or a person even while it is glaring that the government or person whose praises they are singing does not merit such praise.   I classify them as killers of family or nation because they are the reason why this person who is known to be notorious will continue in his/her evil act. After all, they receive praises from sycophants. As human beings, we know when we are not doing the right thing because our body was built by nature to know right from wrong even while we are still conceiving it in our hearts and yet these sycophantic beings will not allow us to change because they make us feel good in our dirty dealings.   The important question for us to ask is; is there any solution for sycophancy? Let me make it clear for us to understand that there are genuine praise singers who praise the good works of a good government or a person and this good works are very glaring for all to see therefore this article is not in any way condemning those genuine praise singers.   For us to solve the problem of sycophancy there must be a well thought out orientation in all levels of life starting from when the child is up to the age of reasoning because that is mostly where it all starts. Have you noticed that most sycophants cannot be classified among the upper class of the society because one of the reasons why someone will choose to become a sycophant is not being able to make ends meet and in their sycophantic nature, they believe that they can be getting bread crumbs from these notorious and wealthy individuals whom they sing their praises?
