How we Disrespect the Opposite Sex

The rate at which we disrespect one another especially when it comes to sexes is very alarming and to make matters worse, our generation is not doing anything to curb this hydra-headed demon which is gradually sucking up the core values of our existence. I don’t want anyone to think I am a feminist either against or for rather I am an individual who has seen the need for drastic action in a way to correct the mistakes that have been done. ***Have you ever been in a commercial bus where a woman is made to stand up throughout the journey while there are a lot of male passengers who are comfortably sitting down?*** It may interest you to know that the type of male folks in this generation do not understand what it takes to treat a woman like a lady she is. Don’t get all fussy if you are a lady reading this article right now. ***You must have witnessed a scenario where a man’s right is trampled upon and everyone expects him to do nothing even as the lady slaps him and rains insults on him.*** To the lady who is insult a man because of the idea that he would respond or react angrily and if for any reason he lays a finger on the lady, he will be tagged an ****abusive man.****   This has been going on in our various communities and especially in our homes but the problem is that no one seems to care because we are all after food for the stomach and money for our pockets. The level of disrespect and insults that come from both sexes is on the increase and this is why I decided to look at those things that bring about disrespect.   ****Social imbalance**** Our society has gradually fallen into that red zone where everyone is seen as a threat even before any formal contact is established. It is not just on a stagnated level, it is on a serious increase because when a baby is born, the parents directly or indirectly pass on this attribute to the child and as the child is growing, he will see these attributes as the right way of life. We have lost our human dignity due to the quest for wealth and fame which were not the basic reason why we exist. There are cases of maltreatment coming from mothers to their house helps because they have this notion that they are better than that house help. The other time, I saw a video where some young men were flogging a girl in the room over what I did not understand at the first instance, but what caught my attention was when the young man whom I think should be the boyfriend of the girl made this statement; ***“why won’t I flog you, don’t I give you money”.***   I practically had to rewind the video to listen to the statement again. At that moment it dawned on me that the issue was just because he caught the girl cheating on him with another man. Now, let us look at this case from another angle. If the girl had been the one who caught the young man cheating, **do you think she would as much as attempt to create a scene let alone flog the young man?** Your answer is as good as mine because we all know that most men feel as though they have a license to cheat while women are not allowed to do the same. Let us look at the case again. From the young man’s statement, you will understand that there is no atom of societal virtue in him just because he feels he provides for the girl. This leads me to the next point.   ****Who should provide for the family?**** I decided to make this a question because it has caused a lot of troubles in our societies today. In a family, a man is expected to go out every day in search of greener pasture for the family and of course himself, while the woman is expected to take care of the children, the husband, the house and lastly herself. This disparity has become the evil that has held our norms in bondage, giving rise to cases of abuse both on the man and the woman. You will see a man who feels he is providing everything in the house misbehaving and no one in the family will have the audacity to talk or caution him because of fear of losing out on the financial help they get from him. This is also seen in a place where the woman sees herself as the one who is in charge of the house everyone tries not to be in her black book even when she is going contrary to her calling as a woman.   I cannot but blame this misdemeanour on our lackadaisical attitude towards seeing both genders as the same in their different ways. I must reiterate that both genders were created to complement each other but the problem we have is that we have become blind and allowed unnecessary things to becloud our judgment. Let us look at the obvious facts. Even science understands the work of each gender that is why there can be no conception without the sperm of the male gender fertilizing the egg of the female gender. No matter how beautiful or sexy a woman may be, she will need the sperm of a man to achieve pregnancy. No matter the level of wealth and fame a man has acquired, he will not and can never be pregnant therefore he needs the woman to carry out that task for him. It may seem like a fairy tale but you must understand that nature has made it so because we are not here to compete with the opposite sex rather we are here to complement them.   The earlier we understand this and live by it the better for all of us and this glaring gender war will die a natural death.
