African Education: What Do We Need?

If Africa is ever going to develop, great attention must be given to the education of her people. Education brings about enlightenment, a precursor to development. Governments should encourage education. They should develop strategies aimed at giving the people access to quality education at little or no cost at all-at least up to primary school level. To do this, they should coalesce with her well-to-do citizens within and outside the country. They can seek aid from other countries and NGO’s all over the world. They should promote indigenous technological development and enjoin her talented citizens outside the country to come back home and make an impact on their compatriots. They should enlighten her citizens through various means of communication on the importance and benefits of education to enable them to appreciate the values and skills they are to obtain through education. I myself will strive to enlighten my people on the benefits of education. I will help create scholarship opportunities to enable talented Africans to be able to further their education for the betterment of the continent. I will encourage indigenous technology and help my people to appreciate what they have and then strive to improve on them. I believe that the ultimate good that can come into Africa must be the enlightenment of her people. This must bear the irrevocable mark of an African. Thus I support African ingenuity and every other thing African. African reference as a “Dark Continent” will come to a definite end when every effort is geared towards emancipation from the slavery of ignorance. Long live Africa!!!
