So I have been on Twitter and I’m surprised at the amount of dismay about Mark Zuckerberg’s latest Metaverse. Curiosity got the best of me so I went in to check Horizon Worlds, a free virtual reality, online video game. After seeing the latest image from this magical realm, all I can say was “Mark spent billions for his metaverse to look Childlike and soulless”.

As everyone knows, Mark Zuckerberg is an American media magnate, philanthropist, and, co-founder of Facebook, the world's largest social network Web site. And because of his popularity for being the chief executive officer of Facebook, almost everyone visited the said virtual realm, after he made the announcement through his Facebook account. Now that we have witnessed how bad his metaverse looks, I don’t think many will be interested to use it or invest in it regardless of his popularity.

Image from Meta

The image above where he posted a VR selfie was the one that Zuckerburg used to promote the launch of Horizon worlds expanding in France and Spain by dropping a Facebook earlier this week.

I can no longer count the number of times that Zuckerberg has been roasted on social media. Yet again, he received backlash because of how awful his avatar looks. According to some Netizens, it is very clear that his eyes are lifeless. The image is supposed to look like his metaverse is expanding to more countries but the background turned out to be an empty landscape populated only by a small version of the Eiffel Tower and Barcelona’s Tibidabo Cathedral.

You can agree to disagree, But many netizens shared that the image looked worse than the decades-old life sim which is in some way… true.

While many are embarrassed, Some netizens came to Zuckerburg's defense stating that part of the reason why the avatars and worlds look awful and plain unlike the latest video games, is Facebook’s desire to make VR content that can run on as many devices as possible.

To Sum it Up

Granted that it is not easy to show 2D screenshots of VR and most of the time, VR lags behind a traditional console and PC gaming in terms of graphics. However, we are not talking about a start-up company here, we are talking about a massive company like Facebook, which is supposed to have very talented people among its ranks.

As a Meta investor myself, I completely understand why many are disappointed about the look of Zuckerburg's metaverse. The moment I heard that the head of Facebook is saying that the metaverse is the future, but they keep posting things that look worse than Nintendo Wii, I'm not sure if it will go well for him or Meta if he continues down that path.

But then again, for a big company like Facebook, it's impossible that they are not capable of doing better and more vibrant things. like what some netizens said, that is not the goal of Meta or Zuckerberg. Maybe their goal is to make a product that can be used by a large number of people which resulted in a lack of defined characteristics.

But how about you guys? What are your thoughts on this? Thank you for reading and I appreciate your thoughtful responses!
