If you look at American bugbane (Actaea podocarpa) closely, you can see the dainty, ethereal creamy-white stamens that bloom in late summer to early fall. Their bottlebrush shape adds ornamental interest, and their pleasant scent creates a strong sensory element. In addition, this plant is a great late-season food source for pollinators like bumblebees and flies! American bugbane likes to grow in part shade to shade in moist, humus-rich soils.
