The first and more obvious thing is exactly what you've already discussed with @bm8ter - people who're ass kissing, without any actual contribution with arguments. The repelling part about them is the question "What if you are unnoticed, not 'rewarded' and only expose yourself by such 'support'? Was it worth it?" Secondly, it's the people who're genuinely supporting that view point. It's best to ignore them and NOT try to prove how wrong they are. It's useless, waste of time.
