Nature is the Best Medicine

This modern world, there are so many alternatives medicines and solutions in order to improve people's lives. Most of these alternatives are composed of chemicals and other tangible resources that don't involve nature. Such as taking pills, going to the gym, and so on. There is nothing wrong with it. However, up until now, I believe that the best medicine and the one that truly improves people's well-being is no other than nature.

I am currently 20 years old and I am happy to say that I have never been admitted to hospitals. And I have no plans to be admitted there, ever. Most of us in our family have never been admitted there. (I am not bragging, just sharing based on experience.)

Growing up, I think we are healthy enough to not get sick intensely and frequently... and it is thanks to nature.

Here are the reasons why (most of the people, including me thinks that) nature is the best medicine...

The closer to nature, the healthier you'll be

Several studies have proved that the nearer you live to nature or green spaces in general, the more joyful and healthier you'll be. In fact, it can also extend your life.

I have heard many times already that there's a rural town in Japan wherein it's filled with very old yet healthy citizens. Also, in my perspective, people who live in provinces are healthier than people who live in bigger cities. It's probably because of being close to nature.

People who live in provinces or rural areas experience less pollution, unlike in cities who experience greater pollution when it comes to air, water, soil, and noise.

Typically, people who live in provinces or rural areas eat more fresh fruits and vegetables because it is more available and affordable. Just like here in our town, horseradish or malunggay leaves, papaya, pili, avocadoes (dati may tumutubo ngayon wala na akong nakikita) and others are available. Fruits and vegetables are also affordable compared to prices in bigger cities.

I live happily in the province and I may sound biased, but it is just my opinion and I think most people can agree with me.

Nature changes your mental health for the better

When you go for a stroll, walk, run, or do activities in nature, electrochemical changes happen in your mind.

Nature can also prevent mental diseases like depression, ADHD, and other psychiatric problems and illnesses.

It is all because of the relaxing and calming properties of nature that greatly contribute to these results.

Sun give you vitamin D

Vitamin D is a must for us, humans, as it helps us to prevent diseases and infections, and also improves our bone structures.

The rays of the sun provide a lot of vitamin D, so going outside on a sunny day can really improve your health.

Sun has a lot of benefits. That's why old people, doctors, and others also highly recommend that month-old babies must get regular sunlight.

Sun also give you a good night sleep

It may sound counterproductive but being out in the sun helps you get a good sleep.

Daylight, particularly in the morning, helps in regulating your internal biological clock which makes it easier for you to get your required rest when sleep time rolls around.

Outdoors can help you kiss your stress goodbye

Researchers find that being out and about in nature reduces stress hormones. By simply taking in an outdoor sights and sounds, it gives great relaxation to the body and mind that helps in lessening anxiety and worry.

Nature has astounding healing properties

Over the decades, it is proven that nature directly improves and heals people's physical health, including patients who are recovering from a disease or illness. It is said that patients who are exposed to nature or outdoors, recover faster, use less medication, and have shorter hospital stays.

In my personal experience, our older generations such as my grandparents, parents, and aunties are very much into nature healing and herbal plants. When someone gets sick or experiences something bad, they do not tend to immediately go to hospitals. Instead, they use different leaves such as oregano, sambong, lagundi, bayabas, etc. They also suggest going to the beach because it helps in improving overall health. Nature has been a huge help for us when it comes to our health and also helps us financially, because it is so much cheaper than going to see a doctor.

Outdoor activity makes you fitter

Going outside in nature often involves some form of physical activity. It can be by just simply walking in the park, hiking through the mountains, swimming at the beach, or an exciting river raft ride. These activities improve physical wellness and can help decrease the possibility of obesity.

Nature heightens the senses and memory

Spending time out in nature can strengthen your senses and memory. When in nature, you're presented to a lot of sights, sounds, smells, and touches, and have adequate measures of new things to take in. These experiences help in boosting your senses, and it has also been proven to improve short term memory.

Brings pure and simple happiness

Let’s all agree that being in nature makes people happier. It changes the brain chemistry in a positive way, improves mood, decreases stress levels, gives room for enjoyable moment, and is simply beautiful.

In conclusion, nature makes us happier and healthier in different ways making it the best medicine for people’s well-being.

Do you also think that nature is the best medicine... or is there better than it? I would love to hear your thoughts.

I agree to all of these. Nature really is good for the health. In my childhood days we live in the province, we rarely get sick or with anything that is serious. The only time I remember I rushed to a doctor was because of a serious wound I got when I jumped to a swing LOL.

I also read a story about a foreigner (I forgot the nationality). He had PTSD, he was in the hospital in their country, they administered a lot of medicine to him and nothing works. Until he went on vacation in the Philippines. Nature and the locals (of how nicely he was being treated) significantly improved his health.

That's why I really like province life. I don't think I can live in big cities for a long period of time.

Glad that that person was healed. I think there are other testimonies also where the nature healed them. Sometimes, it's the hospital that makes the illness of a person worst. Taking so many pills is also not that good. And staying in a hospital bed is not good also. That's why I really don't want to get sick and be admitted to the hospital.

Absolutely right. We needed the nature for us to get foods and medicines itself. The best pa rin ang galing sa nature, no chemical added.

True! You're right. minsan lang kami mag kasakit dito sa bahay eh.

Legit pag mayaman madaling maano diba kaya tayo dapat nagsisikap talaga.

Mayaman o mahirap nagkakasakit talaga. Kaso mas nakakaawa talaga pag yung mga walang kaya masyado ang nagkakasakit ng malala. Buti naman naka-lipat kayo ng mas better na environment.

Nature is blessing to us in many ways. We need to appreciate the wonders of it in our lives especially when it comes to our health. We need to move closer to nature as it gives us this healthy look in us that we don't even need to visit the hospital because all we need is present everywhere in nature. Beautiful write up.

Those are all true. Be as natural as you can be. Plant what you eat. In this modern world, we are after convenience so we end up going for instant food, fast food. We don't want to plant anymore. We tend to be busy that we can't have time to prepare our own meal. Always remember NEWSTART: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air (Fresh), Rest and Trust in God. Give important to those.

Yep. Most of people are after convenience already. Instant gratification. Eating instant/fast foods regularly will eventually affect one's health though. It may not show as of the moment, but in time, it will. Nice acronym btw <3

I mean there is another acronym/term for it now. They taught it to my niblings too but it wasn't called NEWSTART anymore but it still incorporated those eight principles.

Congratulations for being healthy and fit! Not many has that record of never been hospitalized. Thankfully, I am in that club :) I am the only member of the fam who never experienced being wheeled to a hospital, and I thank the Heavens.

And I agree with what you said that nature is the best medicine, but only if we know how to use it to our advantage and reap the benefits. Most people are used to generics and commercialized medicines.

We're lucky to never been wheeled to hospitals. :D Maybe people can learn about herbal or natural medicines through Youtube/online. In our family, I think the learnings is being passed into another generation because we eventually learn it through observations. Unfortunately, not everyone is born in that kind of family, they prefer commercialized medicines. Although we also rely on those medicines but not totally.

Natural medicines are also very common in chinese cultures.

What you shared is true... the more you are surrounded by all things natural, the less the chances of developing illnesses. Fresh air, less pollution, more homegrown produce... in general less toxicity.
