Something Splinterlands players that try to climb up without being willing to invest a lot should be aware of is that the DEC payouts for Winning Ranked games go hand-in-hand with how many players are active at that time. When there are fewer players the payouts will be higher to give incentives for more players to come in, when there are too many players the rewards are lower to reduce the load on the site. You basically want to possibly rent and grind down your capture rate while payouts are high. Yesterday evening this was the case with 150 DEC payouts for single wins in Gold League. (Usually, this happens the 1st couple days after the season end as many are at a low capture rate from grinding the last day) Not the best rewards on the first day of the new season. #Splinterlands

I didn't know this. Thanks. But there's also another opposing factor here: because of the reset in ratings, it becomes too hard to compete with others who are all trying to win to get back to their usual spot
Isn't everyone just getting lower in ranks making it not make that much difference in the difficulty? I tend to stay in a 'lower league' until the last 3 days of the season and move up than since the extra wins in the lower league outweighs the extra 1 or 2 chests from the daily rewards in the higher league. At the end of the season, the extra chests from season rewards do make it worth moving up still.
Idk I think it's the opposite. Exactly because everyone else has dropped in rating, they all want to move back up quickly. It's just my speculation though. Based on my experience finding it much difficult to go upper leagues in the beginning of a season. Also I think the tiers matter here too. It's not just the same for "Bronze - silver" and "silver - Gold"
At the beginning of the season you can have quite nice DEC rewards. I think it has also to do with the fact that the reward pool takes into account the DEC that is distributed through the daily quests. Since at the beginning of the season everybody drops in leagues, there are less rewards in daily quests and more rewards in ranked battles. Not 100% sure about that but that would make sense.
That makes perfect sense also. All I know is that from here on out I will be grinding like crazy on the first days of the season. It makes a massive difference getting that much DEC paid for a win.
Yes It's definitely the best moment to win battles :-)
