I Found Myself In A Land Of Lies Where Love Is A Political Statement (poem)
I Found myself in a land of lies Where love is a political statement. I found myself to be one of the roots they planted. Watered with chauvinism; Fed hate, And racism Scarred by the devil; Brainwashed by the television. I grew to be my own branch, Thinking my own thoughts Living by my own terms, And that meant being a renegade to the history books they threw at my face. A walking blasphemy to their hate gospel: A sin. Hated because of the culture I portray; Hated because of the culture I don't Living in the middle Torn between worlds, And I'll be damned if I choose a side. I found myself in a land That I would've died for once I found myself born into a dysfunctional family. When will we get along? I guess never There are still plenty roots left to pluck There are still younger mes out there wandering Confused.
