There's No Condom For Your Heart
It has been more than five years since I first saw you and fell for you. And from that day onward, till this day, I have loved you more and more with each passing day. Yes, even today, though that might surprise you. It probably annoys you that I am so persistent but then I was always told never to give up on the ones I love. I remember the day I told you I loved you. You said to me that we should remain "just friends" and not ruin what we have. It was only after you ignored my five Facebook messages (and blocked me thereafter), three calls and walked right past me without looking me in the eye, I finally found out what you really meant. "Let's be just friends" is just another way of saying, "Let us not talk ever again". And I fail to understand, why do I get the blame for it? Why am I painted as the villain? You chose to not love me back. And I do not hold it against you. But everyone called me a fool. For being in love. For giving you all I had without asking for anything in return. ''It didn't add up'' people said. ''It didn't need to'' was all I replied. But never aloud because they never understood it.
I did not know how to love. I was learning as I went but this made sure that everything I did, I did it just for you. I did not have smooth lines to pick you up. I did not have a great body for girls to drool over. My heart was the only thing I had which I gave away, and you tore it apart to pieces. I was just a boy, standing in front of a girl, asking her to love me. And not even love, just smile at me once in a while, I could have lived on that. Just knowing that you are happy, that is what I live on even today. People around me thought that I had moved on after some time. What they did not know about was our messages which I scrolled through everyday, those nights when I could not sleep and wandered about like a lunatic and how much I cried into my pillow that even it stopped consoling me and told me to forget you after all. I wish it were that easy. People said over and over to me, "Do you want to give yourself away to someone who doesn't do the same for you". As if I had a choice. You and everyone in this world talk about love as if you can measure it, as if you understand even an ounce of it. In this modern Game of Love, people ask their beloved, How much do you love me? I just smile at the naivety of their statements. How much, they ask. Which measure did you use to calculate it? How do you make sure it is the right amount? I am sorry but you know nothing of love. Ask me. Ask the boy who gave away everything and only got contempt in return. I have experienced love truly, I can say proudly. Not the fleeting kind, but the kind that transcends ages and barriers. A boy for whom love was always about her happiness and not his own. The boy whom heartbreak transformed into a man. To the girl, I fell in love with. I know you are happy today with your boyfriend. I know you do not think about me. Maybe I cross over your mind sometimes. Someday when you are sitting idle, you think of the fool who once told you he loved you. And maybe you think, "What if?" But then a text from your boyfriend distracts you. I wish I had such distractions. Never does a day go by when I do not think of you. And if you think that I am mocking you with this letter, let me reassure you, I am not. It was never about being loved back. It was always just about loving you truly.
