Being nice

*How easy is it to be nice?* *What's your definition of a nice person?* *I remember listening to a song by the late high life legend chief Osita Stephen Osadebe titled "bishop Okonkwo", in that song he said that being a nice person is not easy, he also challengedanybody who thinks otherwise to try* *While reflecting on all these I began to wonder what is difficult or challenging in being nice, I thought it's easy to be nice, I thoight it's just a way of life to be nice*  *Recently i began to see from the perspective of the music legend and why he thought it's difficult to be nice. Ordinarily, there's nothing really that challenging in being nice* *But people make being nice so difficult these days because of their wrong belief and definition of a nice person* *People these days see a nice person as someone who gives them what they want or behaves the way they like, not minding whether the person is okay doing them*  *As long as you keep doing what will favour or benefit other people, as long as you agree to their bid all the time they'll tag you a nice person.*  *While trying your best to please other people, they hardly care about your own welfare, even if you die trying to make them happy they don't care; provided you do what they want, they're okay and they consider you a nice person* *However, whenever the same "nice person" starts fighting for his own interests, the same people that once called him a nice person will start seeing him as a bad person.* *In other words, people expect you to always dance to their tune and please them at your own expence; The moment you start putting your own interest before theirs they tag you a bad person* *Would you rather be tagged a nice person while displeasing yourself or be called a bad person while living a fulfilled and happy life?* *It's all up to you* *No matter how hard you try to be a "nice person" you will lose a lot and might even lose yourself along the line and nobody cares, rather they blame and mock you when you fail* *Be yourself, do what makes you happy even though they call you bad!* Lead image source https://unsplash.com/photos/TwuPHbcQ57w
