The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the greatest Christian saints, protector of travelers, sailors, fishermen and rafters. Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myrlikia, is celebrated throughout Christendom. It is celebrated as a children's holiday in the countries of Western Europe, because then children, if they were obedient, receive gifts. He is the patron saint of the city of Amsterdam. Saint Nicholas was born in the city of Patara in the region of Lycia in Asia Minor, to parents Theophanes and Nona, in the time of the Roman emperor Valerian. Even as a child, Nikola showed unusual spiritual gifts. When he grew up and studied school, he wanted to become a priest, so his uncle, the archbishop, "produced" him for the priest of the city of Mira. He began his spiritual life in the monastery of New Zion, where he became a monk. After the death of his parents, he distributed all the inherited property to the poor. Sveti Nikola, arhiepiskop mirlikijski, slavi se u celom hrišćanskom svetu. Praznuje se kao dečji praznik u zemljama zapadne Evrope, jer tada deca, ako su bila poslušna, dobijaju poklone.
