The side effects of youth

This house was a safe haven, a sanctuary for the stresses of youth. The pressures of those teenage years drifted away here for it was a place of pure relaxation and carelessness. The smell of freshly baked brownies filled the crowded cellar as friends of friends socialized and laughed incessantly. Girls huddled together giggling at each other's laughing faces, stuck in an endless hysterical loop. A sweet musk filled the chilled room as the happy go lucky kids inhaled this carefree sensation. Like a teen's heaven on earth, a youngsters wonderland, a dreamworld for the pubescent. This house was one worth sneaking out of your bedroom window for.

Well, this was how Amanda saw it, her vision was blurred and unfocused. She lay spaced out on a smoky sofa, detached from reality. Other teens with blank faces passed by her but she looked straight through them. It was as if she was alone in a room of ghosts, their silhouettes followed them like their own detached souls.

The world was in slow motion.

Laughs echoed in her head like thousands of ringing bells, bouncing off the thin walls of her skull. It was as if everyone around her spoke a different language for all she could make out were the low slurs and lingering chirps of the crowd. She could see sloppy couples merging in the corner, their legs tied in knots on worn out bean bags. A group of girls walked by spilling yellow liquid across the stained carpet from their flimsy plastic cups. One by one they were courted by chiseled young men who dragged them off for a little privacy.

But not Amanda

She sat alone on her stained sofa and began to sob. She snorted like a young sow and her vision worsened as her eyes filled with salty tears. She stood up clumsily and stumbled towards the door, bashing into several dazed youngsters. Leaving the house of youth she took a few sloppy steps before collapsing like a flopping fish onto the lawn.

The world was spinning around her, she felt sick and her nose had begun to bleed. Her heart was beating three times faster than normal and breathing became difficult. Lying in a pool of her own sweat and blood she cried for help, but the laid back teens passed her by without a backward glance. She rolled onto her back as couples stepped over her flopping limbs, no help was to be found in this house of naivety. She closed her eyes as swirls of colour filled her vision.

The stirring ceased and Amanda lay inanimately on her back as kids walked past high and oblivious to the dangers of this pleasure. Like a dirty deal with the devil for a moments delectation.

She'd sold her soul for this release.

Author's Note :

This is a very short article about how young people underestimate the danger of drugs as they are blinded by the pleasures they bring.

Whoah, I can imagine every scene in your story. Yeah, that's really how youngsters play with drugs and I have seen that moments where some of my acquaintances were in the effects of drugs. Though I haven't experienced tasting that drugs, I can tell that your narrative is exactly the same with what's happening in real life.
