It's the way the sun hits you on a snowy day, when you can smell winter, but summer is all you feel. Your skin breaks out in shivers of appreciation, and you close your eyes for just a second to face the beaming sun.
One second.
One single second that feels like an eternity full of joy, love and hope.
As you feel the sun kiss your skin, you reminisce on all the times you did this before. You see yourself standing in the middle of a busy street, riding your bike, or waiting on your front porch, for just one second.
One second that shows you all of it.
Grief.
Pain.
Relief.
Guilt.
Depression.
The sunshine calls for you, it's warmth melting your freezing veins. You give it all by letting each moment live by itself, by allowing mother nature's purest form of love to shine right on you.
But the second lasts longer than it should, and will all the warmth you feel... you also feel nothing.
Nothing at all.
Who are you?
Have you ever lived at all?
As the light hits your skin, you realize those moments are promises to yourself, and to who you aspire to be. None of them are the same; but they all have one thing in common: they're wishes whispered into the purest form of nature.
You want to get back on your feet.
You want to stop that nasty habit, and start a new one.
You want to talk to that one person again, even if they're laid to rest already.
You want to appreciate those around you, give them all the love you can give.
You want to remember who you are deep inside, and you want to carry that memory like a badge of honor-- because you are all you have left.
And as you open your eyes again, you take a moment to realize where you are, who you are, why you are, and the world will feel different. For just a fleeting moment, you will feel a smile play on your lips, even through the toughest of times.
The smile may fade, but while you continue your day, that moment will play on repeat in the back of your head. A reminder of who you are, of who you can be, will manifest in the depth of your mind. You will change. You will try harder, even if almost imperceptibly so.
You exist.
You matter.
You give it your all.
Mother nature sees your effort. She knows who you are, are she is the one who gifted you this life.
She will always give you sunshine on a winter's day.
She will offer you an eternity of peace and hope in one single second.
And even when the clouds rule the skies, she will linger. She will wait, and she will count on you to keep shining of her.
She gave you her light.
Use it to shine brighter than you knew you could.
