The Almiqui (Solenodon cubanus) is currently restricted to the mountains of the northeastern region and is endemic to Cuba. It lives in caves or tunnels that appear in dry trees and roots. The Almiqui has an elongated snout in the shape of a trunk at the end of which are located the nasal openings, it has small eyes and round ears. In the extremities it has five fingers and they are used to dig and destroy rotten roots and branches. When walking, it supports almost completely the soles of the front legs and only the toes of the hind legs. It is dark brown or black in color with a yellowish back and shoulders. #Naturaleza
