New malware attacks cryptocurrency wallets MetaMask, Nifty Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, MEW CX, Ronin Wallet, Binance Chain Wallet and TronLink are some of the targeted wallets. Security experts noted that the malware can attack Chromium-based browser extensions other than Opera. Unfortunately, that means some of the most common browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Brave are on the list. In addition, while extension-specific attacks can be avoided, Firefox and Opera are also vulnerable to credential hijacking. The new malware, dubbed Mars Stealer by its developers, is a powerful update to the 2019 information-stealing Oski Trojan, according to security researcher 3xp0rt. It targets more than 40 browser-based cryptocurrency wallets, as well as popular two-factor authentication (2FA) extensions, and has a scraping function that steals users' private keys.
